Non-destructive testing, certified

Certifying the inspectors who keep Africa's infrastructure honest.

AFRINDT sets and certifies non-destructive testing standards across Africa, covering ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, penetrant, eddy current, and visual testing. So the person who signs off on a weld, a pipeline, or a structural beam can be trusted to have actually checked it.

What we certify

Six ways to see inside a material without opening it up

Every method below answers a different question about what is happening beneath the surface of a weld, casting, or structural component. AFRINDT certifies inspectors across all six.

UT

Ultrasonic Testing

Sound waves travel through a material and reflect off internal flaws, revealing what a weld or casting is hiding without cutting into it.

Level I to III
RT

Radiographic Testing

X-rays or gamma rays pass through the part and expose an image of internal defects, the same principle a hospital scan uses on a bone.

Level I to III
MT

Magnetic Particle Testing

A magnetic field pulls fine iron particles toward surface and near-surface cracks in ferrous metal, making them visible to the eye.

Level I to III
PT

Liquid Penetrant Testing

A dye seeps into cracks too fine to see, then bleeds back out under UV or visible light once the surface is cleaned and developed.

Level I to III
ET

Eddy Current Testing

An induced electrical current maps changes in conductivity caused by cracks, corrosion, or wall thinning, without touching the surface.

Level I to III
VT

Visual Testing

The oldest method, and still the first line of defence: a trained, certified eye, often aided by a borescope or camera.

Our standard

Integrity, competence, confidence

Three words on our mark, and the standard we hold every certification against.

01

Integrity

A certification means nothing if it can be purchased or bent for a favoured client. Ours cannot be: the exam is identical for every candidate, and the result is not negotiable.

02

Competence

Every inspector is tested against the same written and practical standard, at the method and level they are certifying for, with no shortcuts and no grading on a curve.

03

Confidence

When AFRINDT signs off on an inspector, the engineers, contractors, and regulators relying on that inspection can trust what is underneath it.

Getting certified

How certification works

A straightforward path from application to an active, renewable credential.

1

Apply

Tell us which method and level you are certifying for, along with your current training or work experience.

2

Train and assess

Structured training where it is needed, followed by a written and practical exam under supervision.

3

Certify

Pass, and you are issued a certification tied to your method, level, and a renewal date.

4

Maintain

Recertify on schedule, with your competence checked again, to keep your credential active.

Verify a certificate

Employers can check that an inspector's AFRINDT certificate is genuine and current, using the certificate number, candidate number or surname.
